What the? Reader and Writer drives now slow!!

What the? Ok, Have a plextor 708A and a Lite-on drive. Both unlocked, and ripping at incredible speeds! Then all of a sudden yesterday, they read CD's at 2x. Plextor now burns discs at exactly the speed of the disk (4x discs burn at 4x, when they used to burn at max 8x or better)
What's going on? Any ideas? I didn't fool around with any of the settings!

First thing to check is in your device manager. Check that both your IDE channels are still set to DMA not PIO. If you had any unusual shutdowns Windows sometimes reverts back to PIO mode. Sometimes removing the drives there also, then rebooting and let Windows reinstall the drives may help too. Check that and we'll go from there.
