Hello, new member here. OK , bear with me :

I bounced out of ProTools the L/R music selections , then the vox for Centre , then the doubled GTR for LR/RR , draged and dropped to A-Pack.Encoded. Burned the DVD in DVD StudioPro3 without any copy protection.

Tested on a DVD-A player conected via optical to a new Sony digital amped reciever STRDA 3000ES.

Recognized the stream 3/2 and decoded. The channels seem as though they are discreet. Have I just made a DVD-A or just a 5.1 DD disc?? Being that it's 16/48k.

If it's 24/96 , is it then considered DVD-A? Sorry for my ignorance. I'll read the white papers ASAP.

In any case it's very cool . It's death metal BTW. Something to be said about heavy gtr's going 'gug gug' from 4 point sources to your seated centre position. Certainly no going back to 2.0 thats for sure. thanks to anyone who can chime in!

Hard: Mac g-4 dual 1 gig
Digidesign digi 002 & 001
Soft: DVDStudioPro3 A-pack
ProTools

DVD-V is what you got... To Date, there has not been any successful extraction from the DVD-A layer... Better copyprotection, may take a while before it is cracked.

The copy protection is 56 bits instead of 40, so it's well within the "realm of possibility". However, if there won't be a Linux-player Real Soon Now, it may proof to be easier to rip player keys out of very, very popular Windows software players.

There are three problems:
- accurate extraction of encrypted audio tracks
- decryption of extracted tracks (reverse-engineering the C2 encryption + distributed brute-force OR hacking software players)
- an MLP-capable player (or modified software DVD-A player that plays from HD and ignores the watermark)

Certain interested party in asia, etc. may want
- decoding of the MLP to PCM
- removal or at least disabling of the watermark

Note: even an IBM researcher admitted that the technical copy protection is a mere "speed bump". The actual copy protection is the licensing scheme (including patents).

(edit: typo)

Um , I'm not 'ripping' anything . This was original material. Thanx anyway.
