xbox with aladdin advance but cant locate the dashboard.....

hey,
im totally new to this xbox and i got mine with the aladdine advance modchip (it says on the box) and i switched it on and the standard XBOX dashboard loads with memory, audio and video settings blah blah blah...
i put in a backup game, it says INVALID MEDIA TYPE.
im clueless from this point on.

my xbox mite have another bashboard, is there any special method to activate it? or do i have to install a new one using ISO and all??
