Display problem with Philips DVDR70

Guys

I've recently bought a DVDR70 and have been using it successfully for over a week now, however last friday towars the end of a manual recording the display switched itself off but carried on recording !. The only way I could get the display back was to unplug the machine from the wall socket, however when I did that I lost my recording. The machine has now worked fine for the past couple of days. Can anybody shed any light on why this happened ??.
