Possible bad mod chip?

Okay I have a xbox that I recieved that was already modded so I did not get the expirence of actually doing the mod. I did lots of customizations and then I messed it up. This was about 1 year ago. I have an Xecuter 2 chip, not sure if lite or pro. So it has been sitting for almost a year, well I go to try and fix it recently and the hard drive now does not work, The hard drive is dead. SO just testing it out today i just put a standard hard drive in the xbox, not lock or anything. Just testing the error codes. I first got an error 8 code, I switch ide cable and that was resolved. Something to note is that there is no xecuter 2 text that used to be on the orignal boot screen. Basically saying that I hav the chip installed. Now If the chip is not regonized as installed, I would figure my next error I would recieve on the unprepared drive would be an error 6 or 7, referring to the drive not being locked, because as I understand it the standard box need to be lock. But I do not get that error at all. I get an error 16 which is the can not find or something is wrong with dash board. That is totally understandable, but my question does the lack of the lettering mean anythiing the lettering that says xecuter 2. WEll any help on this topic would be great. Oh I have either a xbob 1.0 or 1.1 Thanks for any help you can give.
