Just bought the E85H from Best Buy. Haven't even taken it out of the box yet. Any opinions on this machine before I touch it?

Hey Nemesis
Its awesome, Im really pleased. Mine's only been out of the box a week. My manual is well-used (it isnt that clear), so Ive read, and asked on forums for issues I needed clarification on. Given the help Ive had, and that your a new owner, feel free to email me if u have any questions. Im at tdale@xtra.co.nz
Cheers

I also have the E85H. It seems to work pretty good, but I can't get the chapter markers to work right. I put in chapter breaks where I want them, but they come out totally differant when I play the DVD. Have you had this problem also? Why bother to put in chapter breaks if the machine changes them to wherever it wants? The manual really sucks. Navigating around the on screen menu is very crude also.

Hello, I recently purchased the E85H and love it. Yet, I cannot seem to get the TV Guide to work. I have had the unit off for 12 hours per the manual and it indicates "no data" available. I'm not sure why it is not downloading the data. I have straight cable without the box. Can you help? Thanks.

check your tvguide setup to make sure everything is correct, and before turning off DVD RECORDER, be sure that the channel selected on your dvd recorder remote is set to 3 or 4. i use 3. also, before you turn your TV off, set to 3 or 4.

I recently purchased an e85h, but am awaiting the missing owners manual. Can someone out there please tell me the basics: how to activate the TV guide and how to record a program. I'm excited about having it, but don't know where to start without instructions. Thanks.

youre gonna love the panasonic recorder. first, on your top of remote, press the "ch" button and set the tv to either channel 3 or 4. to activate the tv guide, press the button "tv guide" on remote. from the display on tv, scroll up to top, then use the left/right buttons to select "setup". now, scroll down and select "change system settings". press enter. scroll down and select "no, repeat setup process" and enter. the first screen that comes up will ask you to select your country. scroll and highlite correct country, then enter. do this with your info for the next few screens.
if you have a cable box, select the correct channel. do not change this channel while the guide is being downloaded, and box must be turned on while downloading.
when finished with this setup, press the tv guide button again, select "setup" at top, and scroll down to "review options". enter. scroll down and select whether you want tv guide display to auto come on or off when you turn recorder on. enter.
if you choose auto, turn recorder off for 12 hours. make sure you FIRST have the remote channel set to either 3 or 4, or it wont download the tv guide. you will then see 3 days worth of programs. after about 5 days youll see 8 days worth of programming. the next day, go to tv guide display, scroll to any program you want to record.
press the green button "chapter" on your remote to record ONCE when the program airs. to record REGULARLY, press the blue button (dubbing) next to it once, twice to record WEEKLY, and so on. if you want to cancel, press green button again.

Guys with the E85H,
Please try to record either a short 1 minute segment or a 30 minute show and see how long the recorder actually records for. You can watch it stop or check its "properties" using the "sub menu" button after the "NAV" button is pressed.
My 85H adds an annoying 1 minute to anything I tape.
Whether it is a "TV Guide" onscreen program or my own.
Also what is the manufacture date of your recorder.
Thanks,
Michael

my panasonic e85h was mfg in april, 2004.
when i record a program i always set it to record 1 min earlier and 1 min later in order to make sure i have the entire movie.
in HDD you can edit out this extra min by using divide chapter.
