I have an ancient v4 ps2.

I looked at what i think is my laser and there is dust all over it.

Swap Magic takes ages to load my discs, is this swap magics fault or the lasers?

Your laser cant read disks with ancient dust all over it, just clean it out with a cotten bud, if your backups still wont load properly then its probably ur dvdr media.

Can you read origionals ok? If you can your media is the problem. If not your laser could be going bad. You can replace them really easy though.

I can run originals fine.

Its swap Magic which takes ages to load. Once i stick in a backup after swap magic is loaded though the backup loads very quickly.

Anoth problem though is there are scratches on a lot of my discs which have quite clearly come from the laser when the disc was spinning.

Is this a faulty laser or because of my flip top? Im probably getting my ps2 properly modded so i am unsure whether to keep on my flip top or not.

I have heard of the laser scratching the disks on older ps2s. There is a white gear in the dvd drive you can adjust the height of the laser. That will probably help. I would suggest getting it modded. I had a flip top and ended up selling it and getting a real mod chip. I love the fact i can just put the disk in and it plays. Well as for the laser do a google search on adjusting your laser and you should find a guide. I have done it before but I don't have enough time to write you out instructions. They are easy to find though. Good luck! If your going to mod it I would suggest selling that one and getting a new ps2 or getting a new laser just to make sure you will have no problems.

Im going to get someone to fit a mod for me (probably Due 2 SE - im told it will run all games no probs) so i'll ask them to check my laser as well.
