For virtually the same money, about £60 I can get myself either the Sony-DW-D22A or the Pioneer DVR-108 they are both 16X speed and both dual layer, on paper their specs seem the same, has anyone got any preferences from having used either of these models??
Any other model suggestions for similar budget would also be appreciated?
Thanks for your help you gurus of knowledge :-)

Well if this helps any what I'm about to say then all good ... but some ppl may have a different opinion.
I have had a Pioneer 104 for at least 4 yrs & am looking to update as the 104 will only burn at x2 , I have never had a problem w/ it & the drive has has never been too fussy about what media I used.
Hence I will definitely be purchasing the Pioneer 108 myself [for £57] asap :c)

I agree with herbsman on that one.
I too have a Pioneer A04 (104) that has been running for years, as well as faster models, all Pioneer.
Have fun...
Life is just more of the same:

Pioneer ALL THE WAY...................
Pioneer ALL THE WAY...................
Pioneer ALL THE WAY...................
Pioneer ALL THE WAY...................
Pioneer ALL THE WAY...................
Pioneer ALL THE WAY...................
My old Pioneer AO3, started life as a 1x burner, then flashed upto 2x, been sold on to at least 3 other people and is still going strong in excess of 1800 burns to my knowledge.....
I then had a 106, 4x solid burns coupled with Recordnow software and it rocked, straight out of the box............
Just got me a 108 and it rocks even more than the 106, again coupled up with the new Recordnow deluxe suite 7.2 software, fully supportable drive with the DL capability supported...............
I shall never purchase anything OTHER than Pioneer.
What do people mean they say they have burned coasters?????LMFAO................must not be using the 108 then....................
Now you have to agree, this HAS been helpful............

Having owned a Pioneer drive and a Sony, I'd say go with the Pioneer. That's what I'm buying later this year.

Another proud Pioneer owner here, got the 106 earlier this year and love it to death. Bought it over the Sony model at the time because a LOT of people were bitching about problems with the +/- drives at the time. Personally, I'm going near anything with a Sony logo with a 40 foot pole for a long time, heard of far too many people being stung or paying too much.

I would say you cant go wrong with either. I have a Sony DRU 510A, bout 10 months old never let me down. Has backed up every game and dvd I own, no problem, its only a one sheep burner too. My brother in law just bought a Pioneer DVR-108, so I guess I'll see. Just for the record I'll give a vote for Sony.

I have a different opinion :-] Buy the Pioneer! My A05 burner works great.
Sony has too much vested interest in television and Hollywood (I am against foriegn ownership of media). I don't trust them not to eventually put a backup prevention scheme into either their burners or the firmware updates for them.
Conspiracy theory #44587a

PS: "nepatistic and arsey"??? WTF? did you go to collige?
