OK...maybe this will be able to be answered.....

With Volume One of the first season of sex and the city, I have all the VOB ripped, subs stripped, etc. I would like to just split the remaining VOB's into episodes 1 - 3, and 4 - 6 (3 per DVD+r). I dont think I have to re-encode it do I? I plan on making a menu with DVDMaestro. Any thoughts on this???

First off, if you transcode them they'll all fit onto one DVD-5 perfectly. I just did this disk. Here's how I did it: I used VOBrator to identify which VOB ID contained which episode. I then used IFO Edit (did this part once per episode) to strip out all of the other episodes. For instance, if I am doing episode 1 and it's in VOB ID 1, then strip out all of the VOB ID's except for 1. Create a new directory each time you do this. Now you have six small vob sets, each containing one episode. If you are content with using two disks, then do so. Othewise, trascode each episode so that all six will fit on the disk. Now, I use Scenarist instead of Maestro, but the technique will be the same: Load each episode into Maestro as a separate PCG. Create your menu, each menu item corresponding with the PCG containing the episod that you want it to play. Understand, this is the hard way, but I like it better for this reason: the program time in each episode will be correct. You could have also done this by using IFO Edit twice: First strip out the VOB ID's for episodes 4-6, then for 1-3. Now you have TWO small VOB sets, each containing three episodes. Now in maestro, if you're making a menu you will need to note exactly where the episodes change so that your menu pointers will work.

So here's the differences in the results between the two methods:

Method 1 will result in each episode starting at time zero and ending at time ~thirty minutes.

Method 2 will result in the first episode starting at time zero, the second starting at ~time=30min, the third at ~time=1h, etc.

Hope this helps.
