I have an Emprex dual DVD writer. I have been using Prodisc matte finish -R's for a while, everything working just peachy. Then I got a batch of shiny topped prodisc -R's and got a 50% coaster rate. This was all done using the 43 firmware and the 6303 version of nero. I tried the newer and newest versions of Nero and got coasters. I then read much info. saying that if you are using "quality" media and nero and still having problems then make sure that your firmware is up to date. So I flashed the latest firmware (version 51) and now it seems my drive has higher tolerance of the same prodiscs as I haven't been getting coasters, however the 4X drive seems to want to only burn at 2X speeds. The DMA available setting is on and all the software says that everything is running at 4X. It used to work fine and actually wrote at 4X. Can you flash back to an older version of firmware? Also it's only writing at 2X w/ some 4X Ritek G04 and Optodisc 4X media I have. It does still seem to rip at normal speed. The only thing I can think of left to try is to remove the drive and clean it. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? I appreciate any advice.

Brian
