OK, this is what I've got. I ripped all the files using DVD decrypter. I've used IFOedit to strip languages. I'm at 4.67 GB for Windtalkers. I need to encode to smaller files. I open up VOBedit to demux VOB's (VTS_02_1 through VTS_02_5) to m2v and ac3 files. I open up TMPGEnc, DVD in NTSC mode 4000kbps select next. This is where the problem starts. For my video file I put in VTS_02_1.m2v. It works. Now I go to audio file and put in VTS_02_1.80.ac3 and it comes back saying "cannot open or unsupported". This drove me nuts for a few days before I tried VTS_02_2.m2v and VTS_02_2.ac3 to see if it worked. Voila! I can make these files smaller but not the VTS_02_1 files. Why? What happens so that I can't encode this one? I would greatly appreciate the help on this because I'm getting to the point of thinking it would be easier to just buy the damn movie.

I havent an answer to why you can't open that file but do you need to run Tmpgenc on the audio files , when I re-encode a movie I just do the .M2V and leave the audio alone. I use DVD2AVI on the vobs to get the M2V and demux the audio tracks , usually just 1 of them , and it produces the .AC3 as 1 file per track.

Actually, it shouldn't work. Unless they've changed something very recently (after 2.53) TMPGEnc won't accept ac3 files as an audio source. It'll take an ac3 file as a source for muxing (in MPEG tools) but it won't work on them during the encoding process. Go figure.

yeah, what a boner I am. I was trying to force it to accept ac3's when I really didn't need to. Thanks for the info. Is DVD2AVI better at getting m2v's than VOBedit? That's what I'm using. I guess it probably doesn't matter too much.

Im not sure if its better , with mine once I put the settings in DVD2AVI I've never had to change them cos basically every film is the same. Its quick, only takes a few mins to run through a film and its free but so's VOBedit. There's a guide on doom9 for setting it up if you ever fancy giving it a try but if VOBedit works for you then why change :)
