What type of Digital Camcoder for DVD movies?

I'm new to making movies on DVD. I made a couple on CD's with Digital and Analog Camcoders(Converted to Mpeg with Dazzle). From what I am seeing here it looks like it does not matter what Quality Digital Camcorder you use or at least no one has mentioned it. It sounds like it is all in the software rendering to mpeg 2. My question is: In order to make reasonably high quality DVD movies do I have to buy an expensive special Digital Camcorder or can I use an not so expensive Digital Camcorder and depend on the software. In other words can MPEG 2 be produced from any Digital clip or does it depend on the quality of the camera? I want to produce some educational DVDs and I have a Sony Digital 8 model DCR-TRV310 NTSC HANDYCAM. Thanks!

Well, the 'not so expensive' cameras (digital or analog) probably have inferior optics and imaging circuity, but quality is means different things to different people, so I suggest you use the camera you are happy. You don't have to have a digital camcorder if you have hardware capable of capturing analog video/audio. It doesn't mean that the camcorder will produce good quality just because it's digital.
