I've read the FAQ and still need some input as to which chip to get. I have a V7 PS2 and am looking for these things:

1. Price. Hoping to spend less than $40 shipped.
2. Ease of install.
3. Best place to buy.

Also, I see that the more expensive chips have the upgradeable Flash memory for future compatibility with new copy protection. Has Sony ever changed copy protection methods on games to render certain modchips unusable? What is the risk of this happening in the future?

I see that some chips have a ribbon cable. It seems that the ribbon cable would make for a much easier install than a bunch of jumper wires. Is this true or not?

Thanks.

the chip that sounds right for you is the magic 3.1 or duo 2 se from http://www.impactmods.com. i got a duo 2 se and it got here with in like a week. i dont think sony has ever changed the protection but you never know. people that have chips that cant turn off are pulling their hair out because they cant play online games. sony has started kinda a war against piracy by shutting down hd loader and adding that new patch to socom so you cant use back ups. i think the ribbon is for pretty much no sodler mods but i would stay away from those since you still have to swap discs and you risk blowing a fuse in your PS2.

Just ordered the Duo 2 SE. www.impactmods.com definitely had the lowest price I've seen on that chip. Thanks for the help.
