playing ps2 backups without mod chip installed?

Is it possible to make & play backups without a mod chip or any other hardware on our ps2. ie. using only software like Alcohol120(or another?pls recomend a program), its very expensive having to replace damaged disks. Thanx for any help!(ps. I'm not very pc literate but I'm not short on effort)

without some kind of mod to your ps2(mod chip/swapmagic with flip/slide) you can't play burnt game backups

Thanx, which option is the least technical? Do any of the options I have not void the warranty? Would a package like "PS2 Slide Card and Swap Magic v3.0/2.0 Combo" do the trick? If it does I hope someone in south africa can tell me were to get the stuff!
