OK, I bought a Maxtor 40GB hard drive today.
That is the first step.
What else do i need and how do i get everything going
so i can start ripping games onto the hard drive?

so i am gonna need either a swap magic or gameshark?
does that mean i need that flip top crap or slide card?
If i get the hd loader, i won't need swap magic or all that other extra stuff to backup games onto the hard drive right?

You need some way of booting backups. That means either a fliptop or slidecard with swapmagic, Gameshark or other codebreaker that can do it (only some versions), modchip, or a friend that can boot backups on their PS2. Once you have it on the memcard, you dont need a mod to use HDLoader.

If you find a trustworthy site, you can buy HDLoader. That way you dont need a mod.
