Had loads of problems with this recorder since updating the firmware to ff16f from Philips.
Main problem was the recorder showing RW disks to be DVD playback only disks when a recording had been made same as other people have been experiencing according to other threads on this forum.
used Philips/Bulkpaq and Datawrite RW disks with no difference at all.
Backdated to the old original firmware ff13k using the force download method (remove mains lead and plug back in while holding the record and eject buttons till it says FORCE DL in the display)
This did seem to make a slight difference but not much and i even formatted some failed disks using DVDinfo pro and although they were displayed as RW on the Philips they failed again after a few minutes with Disk error being shown.
I noticed that they always failed after a period of recording when the machine had built up a fair bit of heat inside same again as other users were aware of.
After removing the cover that does not have any vent holes in obviously to stop dust etc entering the gubbins inside, it appears to have stopped making coasters from RW disks after a week of burning for hours on end.
So my guess is the high inside temp somehow ruins the dye or makeup of the disks.
Unless someone more advanced than me knows any different?
