Nero Problem with Burning Speed

I have been using Nero to back up my dvds but lately i have encounted a few problems.
1.) My burner is 8x but nero only allows me to select 6x, 4x, or 2.5x. This has happened with Fujifilm, memorex, and verbatim discs.

2.) When i select any of the speeds listed above it says burning at that speed and everything would suggest that it is burning at the selected speed (IE: the time remaining and the dialouge box). Unfortunately the disc always burns at the speed immediately lower than the one selected (IE: choose 6x, really burns at 4x). I know this because the time remaing always goes to zero and it still has to burn for five minutes.

Somebody help.....This problem just started happening.
