What are the last letters of your PS2.I can tell what it is by the last letters of your PS2 along with the number you mentioned.I can't really tell what version you have from just the number SCPH-30001 it could be a V1-4 if the last letters are not detected. These are some versions and letters for the PS2 versions SCPH-30001:
10 Screws at base of PS2 Version 1, 2 and 3
USA SCPH 30001 Version 1 = Serial Number begins with U1
USA SCPH 30001 Version 2 = Serial Number begins with U0
USA SCPH 30001 Version 3 = Serial Number begins with U1 Date Code 1A
USA SCPH 30001 Version 3 = Serial Number begins with U2 Date Code 0D
USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U0
USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U1
USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U2
USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U3
USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U4
USA SCPH 30001 Version 4 = Serial Number begins with U5
If the version you have is not in here tell me alright.I am sure I can find a messiah modchip install diagram for you somewhere,is it the Messiah 2 Pro modchip that you are trying to find a install diagram for.

I think the Matrix Infinity hands down man.I think the reason I would choose this is the fact that they where the first to come out with automatic detection, and have the upgrade option via cd-r.It is a tight chip no doubt, and I should be working on installing it in my PS2 real soon.If a better update comes along I will go with that, but as for the moment Matrix Infinity.

"a PS2 with a tired laser may not read DVD-R's or if it can it might take a longer time to read then it should which can throw off the timing of the chip"
I read this and my ps2 does have a "tired" laser...does this mean it wont read back up games..dont wanna waist the $ if theres no sense in it if i cant play back ups...playing dvd's im not worried about.

Do you have to use dvd-r to play back up PS2 games or can you use cd-r. I was gonna use the proggy fire burner with cdrwin. Any ideas or sites that will make it easier to copy games?

It depends on what the color on the bottom of the game is laflair13.If the bottom of a game you are trying to back up is Purple it is a cd-r,and don't use cd-rw they won't work unless newer version PS2 V9 or V10 I think support it.The games that have a silver bottom or gold bottom are Dvd games, you can use Dvd-R or Dvd+R if your system can support both of those discs that is.If not try Dvd-R discs they seem to work with all version PS2 systems.I think you can only support Dvd-R dvd discs with your system laflair13 since you have a V3 system.Hope this helps you out,and if you want to use a really good program for PS2 games the cdrwin program that you where thinking of getting is perfect for it,but Alcohol 120% is also good to use.I wouldn't suggest fireburner for PS2 games, but I am sure it works also just doesn't meet the standards for PS2 game burning.
