I was just checking to see if anyone else out there was using DVD-A in live formats (i.e. instead of DAT).

do you mean recording directly to DVD-A at a live venue? Most probably use a computer based system to record live, like Pro Tools or Cubase which can record up to 192K, depending on your hardware

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:
