i was wondering, has anyone tried to put some other dvd drive in the gamecube to see if it could run backup discs?

i know the one in there reads the data backwards but what if a similar drive was put in instead?

the reason i ask is cause i saw a picture of the gamecube mainboard and if someone were to figure out which pins were which on the ide ribbon cable or whatever bus the gc uses, couldn't a special cable be made to hook up a regular dvd drive?

sort of like making your own panasonic q.

i know this wouldn't solve the problems of having a bootloader and all getting the gc to actually recognize burned backup dvds. but wasn't something like this done with dreamcast back in the day? i could've sworn i read somewhere about people swapping normal cd drives for the ones that come standard in the dreamcast.

anyway, don't flame me over this thread, its just reasonably uninformed conjecture.
