Need help with HP firmware

HI

I have a HP dvd200e (external) and I have been trying to update the firmware.
The first thing I tried was to download HP mycd and install it. I then downloaded HP original firmware. But when I try to burn a dvd+r i get an error message saying that the media is not supported. (samsung 8X)

I reverted back to 1.36 and got the same error message on a maxell dvd+r 4X. With the 1.36 formware I am able to burn my smasung media, but the dvds don't work afterwards.

Could someone give me a step by step guide to how to fix this?
