DVD RW won't read DVD, will read CD

I upgraded XP to Service Pack 2 and now my Sony DVD RW DW-U10A will not recognize DVDs. It does recognize CD-R and CD-RW and will open them with no problems. This is an OEM device and I have uninstalled the drivers and let XP automatically install them and I got the same result. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to correct this problem. Thanks.
