hi
does anybody know how to encode/convert a WMA file to MP3 that is protected by DRM (Digital Rights Menagment)?
is there a specific programme i should use?

I don?t know of any programmer that would risk going up against Microsoft directly by allowing someone to do that sort of thing using there software, but there is a way... :)

It?s the analog method. If you can get the song to play though your speakers then it is possible to record it to your hard drive. If you have ever used Windows Sound Recorder then you will understand the concept.

To record analog signals I use a program called Jet Audio 6 Basic (Free Version). It will allow you to record the "Wave Out Mix" (all the sound that?s going to your speakers) and format the signal using a number of lossy (wma, ogg vorbis, and real) and lossless (FLAC and Monkeys) audio formats.

Sadly, Mp3 isn't supported (for licensing reasons) but I recommend recording a FLAC file then converting it to mp3 (for best results).

Sorry it sounds like a hassel but after you do it the first time it will become extra easy.

I just got done helping another person out with this in this forum and they had problems (they all fixed now). It took a few posts but now the thread has become a pretty nice guide for me to use. So, check it out and if you still have questions post your questions in this thread and I'll help you to the best of my ability.
