Is it okay if I take my HDD off my PS2 and put it on my PC ?

Hello, I have a 40 GB Maxtor HDD on my PS2, however Its getting quite full, I use HD Loader, and wondered if its okay, to take the HDD out of my PS2 and put it on my PC, to transfer the games that I backedup, to my PC. And If I do that, will I be able to put the PS2 games back into my HDD ( After I had placed them into my PC's Hard Drive )and still be able to play them on my PS2 again? Sorry if it sounds confusing, thanks in advance.
