converting avi/divx to dvd

Hello I have a divx avi. file which was originally a dvd mpeg. format. When I try to encode it back to mpeg It goes all perfectly. I split it to audio and video file, and the video plays, but when i play the audio the audio plays but you can't hear anything. It's just blank. The audio is perfect on the avi file, I used dvd-lab to combine both files to dvd format and still no audio. I burnt it to dvd-r and still no audio. Can someone help please? Thanks

nero software does this. I've only used recode which converts it's to a playable dvd.
