dvd drive wont read properly?

i have a pioneer 107 dvdr drive running on win98. It used to work properly but i had aspi problems that i could not manage to fix so i formated my hard drive and started again however i still have the same problems. It wont read cd's of any kind and it will only read dvdr's but will not read original dvd's. please help me
