I'm beginning to think no one here realy understands a DVD file system. I've made a few posts about the different files and what they mean and how to edit them, but no one ever answers.

I guess if it "ain't easy," no one here has the answers.

I WILL figure the sh_t out, and when I do, I'll be glad to help others with the file system used by DVDs. This is especially useful for those that are making DVDs that are NOT commercial DVDs.

Sorry if I sound a little bent, but I've spent over a week trying to figure all this out, and not one response from an Afterdawn user that can explain the file system. If there's info here, I sure as heck can't find it.

One piece of software you might want to try is TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6. Use DVD Decrypter to rip the movie. You can then inport individual VOB files into TMPGEnc. You can also use it to create menues. I used it to copy all 5 seasons of Babylon 5. There are 4 episodes per DVD. I ripped it and copied 2 episodes per disk to retaim 100% quality. Works great and is simple to use. You can download it from the web aor buy it here http://www.pegasys-inc.com/en/product/tda.html.

One thing. TMPGEnc will not work unless you rip the ENTIRE contents if the video-TS folder.

One thing. TMPGEnc will not work unless you rip the ENTIRE contents if the video-TS folder. In otherwords you will need to rip these files:

Directory of H:\VIDEO_TS

01/01/2000 01:00 <DIR> .
01/01/2000 01:00 <DIR> ..
01/01/2000 01:00 12,288 VIDEO_TS.BUP
01/01/2000 01:00 12,288 VIDEO_TS.IFO
01/01/2000 01:00 491,520 VIDEO_TS.VOB
01/01/2000 01:00 126,976 VTS_01_0.BUP
01/01/2000 01:00 126,976 VTS_01_0.IFO
01/01/2000 01:00 871,858,176 VTS_01_1.VOB
01/01/2000 01:00 871,858,176 VTS_01_2.VOB
01/01/2000 01:00 871,858,176 VTS_01_3.VOB
01/01/2000 01:00 871,858,176 VTS_01_4.VOB
01/01/2000 01:00 871,989,248 VTS_01_5.VOB
01/01/2000 01:00 122,880 VTS_02_0.BUP
01/01/2000 01:00 122,880 VTS_02_0.IFO
01/01/2000 01:00 871,858,176 VTS_02_1.VOB
01/01/2000 01:00 871,858,176 VTS_02_2.VOB
01/01/2000 01:00 871,858,176 VTS_02_3.VOB
01/01/2000 01:00 871,858,176 VTS_02_4.VOB
01/01/2000 01:00 871,989,248 VTS_02_5.VOB
17 File(s) 8,719,859,712 bytes
2 Dir(s) 0 bytes free

Then you can import the VOB files into TMPGEnc. You can only import one at a time but you can import as many as will fit on one DVD. TMPGEnc will then encode the files into MPEG-2 format. It has its own internal writing software to burn the DVD. It pretty simple to use.

Good luck!
