Hi, I am a newbie to this hobby. I was given this software by my uncle and everything seem cool so far. Rather wait for an hour or so with reading and writing on DVD, I went out and purchase a Sony External DVD-burner (DWD22) is the model to be exact.

At first, when I connect it and everything seem fine and when I start the process of reading (it when GREAT-superfast since it was 16x and so forth), but then the dissapointment set in... when it get about 26%.. the external just stop completely.

But it slowly reading.. 1 second at a time... for each second.. it is like 2 minutes... I thought it just happen to one disc only, so I tried another and another and another.... SAME RESULTS.... data not readable.. so I have to cancle everything.

Here is my asking for help:
1. Can i use the 16x burner with DVDXplatinum?

2. I have read somewhere in here that the max speed for platinum is 8x, can i change the speed on the external to 8x so it can match?

3. Is there a way I can resolve this issue? I have tried the same process at a lower gig PC, and it takes about 2 hours to read and 1 to write (BUT IT WORKS)

4. What am i doing wrong here?

Please help.
