this part of the log:

=== Scsi-Device-Map ===
DiskPeripheral : WDC WD800JB-00ETA0 77.0 nvidesm Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : GENERIC DVD RW 8XMax 130I nvidesm Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : LITE-ON LTR-48246S SS0B nvidesm Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : Generic STEALTH DVD st3wolf Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off

means DMA is off for every single one of your drives - not a good thing. Try this to correct it:

o to Device Manager >

Expand the tree for DVD/CD ROM Drives >

Find the drive in question, right click it and go to Properties >

Under the Driver tab, select Uninstall then OK.

Now reboot and Windows should detect and reinstall the drive.

If this doesn't help try the same steps as above except expand the tree for IDE ATA/ATA Controllers and uninstall either the Primary or Secondary controller depending on which one the drive in question is attatched to. Nero Info Tool can tell you which chain the drive is on under the Configuration tab.

This will allow us to get your system back on track and hopefully identify what caused everything to get kicked out of DMA :)

Thks for the reply...While troubleshooting I removed the power connector for my cd drive and now the dvd burner works fine...pretty strange!
Anyway, I'll give your solution a shot if it craps out again...thanks
