I need step by step instructions... this whole thing is new to me... okay... I have a cd-r drive and nero and I need to know... do you need a "fliptop" to burn games? and if so what is it and where do I get it? also... is there any way I can play burnt games without a modchip or boot disk? and if not where can I get a modchip/boot disk without buying online? P.S. is there any way I can play 'em without the disk or chip? (Your responses are greatly appreciated)

You will need a boot disc or modchip to play any backups at all and you will have to pay for either one. Also since PS2 has two different media types you will need a dvd burner in order to make backups of your dvd based games which have a silver bottom while the cd games have a purple bottom where a cd burner is only needed to backup those games. A fliptop is only useful if you go the route of getting the boot disc as it makes swapping the disc easier.

You can buy most of the things required from this site: http://www.consolesource.com

Playstation 2 V9
Swap Magic 3.2 CD/Swap Magic DVD 2.0 and w/ Slide Card
Breaker Pro Disc
MC HDLoader Exploit
Maxtor 120 GIG HD

If you use the boot disc you must swap the disc at a certain point without the PS2 knowing you did it in order for the backup to boot. You can use either a fliptop or a slide card in order to swap out the boot disc with the game you want to boot. I believe the slide card can be purchased or there may be instructions on how to make one yourself. So a fliptop or slide card is required in order to use the boot disc.
