The PC business is pretty well sewn up. If you sell a PC at £50 profit, you'll need a lot of business to make significant return. To do that means selling almost at the same price point as the prebuilt units. The difference is, that you're using higher quality stuff. Trouble is, how do you get dumb consumers to recognise that?
Profit is not everything when starting up a business. We could easily establish brand loyalty/marketing with pricing penetration/ destroyer pricing.
A good example of this is ASDA. They sell products at a loss to get rid off the competition as others just can't compete due to the low prices. I admit over hauling HP etc looks daunting but hey, "impossible is nothing"
Didn't Gigabyte start off in an office of 8 people?
Now look at it :P

That was then they first started, then they diversified into different market segments. It's kinda like Bill Gates, started work on Windows in his Dad's garage. :P

The G92 version of the 8800GTS pretty much performs identically to the 8800GTX, sometimes a bit faster, sometimes a bit slower. The difference being of course that it only has 512MB of RAM rather than 768MB.

Steve Jobs is one of the (2) founders of Apple Computers the other being Steve Wozniak...Steve Wozniak then started the US Festival...Steve Wozniak is also single handily responsible for the decline of most of the Concert promoters in the USA...He changed the pay structure of the music industry...a Brilliant man when it came to computers...An Idiot when it came to the Music industry...I personally Despise Him...

@GTR35
No Research...I was around when Computers first came out...I remember when he announced that he was going to become a Concert Promoter...and how he was going to basically change the Concert Promotion Industry...which he Did...He Basically Lost all his money that he made off Apple...within 2 years of becoming a Concert Promoter...He drove most Independent Concert Promoter into Bankruptcy in the mid 80's...what a Freaking Moron...
@abuzar1
Steve Wozniak is the one I hate...I do not have anything against Steve Jobs...just Steve Wozniak...

Steve Jobs is a very well known person, almost as much as Bill Gates. I'm amazed you've never heard of him, it takes no research to know who he is, I thought it was common knowledge!

as most of you know my knowledge about GPU's is limited. most of what I've read says that PCIe 16x and PCIe 2.0 is backward compatable. is this true? TIA.

Yes current PCI-E 2 cards run fine with PCI-E 16x. I'll testify to that since I'm running a HD 3850 on a P35 chipset.

I'm not but a buddy of mine has an asus P5W DH Deluxe mobo and wants to replace his 7950 PCIe 16X with a new 8800GTS PCIe 2.0. I'll probably buy his old card for a new build I'm going to be doing one of these days. the 7950 will be fine for me since I'm not a gamer.
