I've asked about it before, but I don't think it can be done.

My Sony dvd standalone plays mp3 (cd-r) data discs _perfectly_. I really would like to archive some of the mp3s on DVD discs though (seven times the capacity).

I can create an mp3 dvd-data disc which plays fine thru WinAmp, but of course, the Sony just refuses to recognize the disc.

I guess this is because a standard dvd player expects certain kinds of formats when either of the two media types are inserted:

CD-R/RW = red book music cds; mp3 data discs; white-book vcd; and sometimes svcd.

DVD-R/-RW +R/+RW = DVD Video Discs. Period. No other option.

I'm *positive* manufacturers could easily incorporate this feature if they wanted to.

Short of a major dissasembly of my player (which wouldn't guarantee anything anyway), is there any way to fool a dvd player into thinking a dvd-mp3 disc is just a cdr-mp3 disc?

Thanx.
