yes, they are hard to install. You could also get a fliptop and swap magic discs instead.

you need either a fliptop or slide card. they both require the swap magic discs. http://www.ps2cover.com has details.

slide card forces your tray open. fliptop doesn't force anything and is a lot easier to use.
