I just bought an Emachine T3256, and it has 512MB of PC2700 ddr ram, and I have an extra stick of PC2700 ddr ram (512mb) in my old computer. I was looking on the internet, and got a little confused about how it suggested that I were to buy PC3200 ddr ram (512mb) for an upgrade. If anyone knows, would it be ok if I were to just put in my old PC2700 (512mb) in the new computer, and yes it can take that much memory. Thanks

Hey

I wouldnt see why it wouldnt work...

It wont destroy the computer or the RAM, so simplest way, 'Try It' :-)

If it doesnt work, then you may need to get the faster RAM, but if it currently has PC2700, i dont see why you cant add another PC2700 chip.

Ok, I opened up my computer, looked at the memory stick, and it says that it is a PC3200. The FSB is 400mhz, which means PC3200. All of the sites I goto to check what kind of memory I should use, they all say PC2700/333MHz. I'm still not sure what I should do about getting a PC2700 stick or PC3200. I'm not really sure if it would mess up my memory, or what so if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciate! :-)

Hey

If you have PC3200 installed you should match that speed and size stick for best performance. You could install the PC2700 stick with the PC3200 but the system will run at the slower of the two sticks speed(PC2700-333MHZ). Try the PC2700 as CJC suggested and see if there is a performance gain(probably yes because you are doubling the Ram). I have never heard of irreversable damage done by missmatched Ram. If you have problems just remove the PC2700 and you will be fine. Just be sure that the sticks are both DDR or DDR2. They are not compatable and plus they will not fit in each others slots.
