First i thought of using the slide card but I do not want to buy anything of that sort. Is there anyway I can make the ps2 play DivX videos (I have a dvd burner and I dont mind spending DVDs), Its just that if I re-encode the divx files as DVD files, there will be a huge quality loss. If there is anyway I can play DivX files on the ps2 maintaining excellent quality that would be great, and yes I have heard of streaming the media over LAN but thats the last option.

I dont wanna buy a modchip, I just wanna play DivX/XviD videos on my ps2 without streaming over LAN, if you know how lemme know please!

Use Action Replay MAX to play Divx.
