has anyone else ever had this problem? what could be the least expensive way of fixing it without putting more money into it? he has a retail shop that sells items someone may have brung back to the store weather damaged or just wont there money back. can you install a new harddrive? what kind? any info will be helpful. thanks

what kind of "awefullest noise"?

if its a loud clicking then the reader arm on the hd is knocking against the hard disk and has permanantly scratched it.

try holding the xbox at diff angles to see if it will read. mine worked with the back end propped up on a 4" tall book.

If you get it to start, dont jack around- hot swap it to your pc, bkup the hd with hddriver, and get your eeprom. you can get replacement xbox hdds on ebay for about 5bucks, but they wont be any good if you dont have yor eeprom.

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one getting burned.
