Hi,

I wonder could anyone help me with a strange problem that has come and gone before for no reason I know of.

Whenever I play any media file on Windows media player I physically can't here any sound (as if muted) until I open Power DVD. As soon as this is open the song is suddenly audible at whatever point it has got to in Windows media player.

If Power DVD is closed then everything is muted again!

What's going on?

Cheers

have you checked the levels in audio controls?

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

I'm not sure but I think Imposter is right. You should re-install WMP. It sounds like a problem with your registry. I assume you installed Power DVD after WMP. Which version of WMP are you using?

Hi Thanks for the replies,

It's actually back working now, but i'm sure it will happen again.

It's version 9 and both it and Power DVD were already installed when I bought the PC from new.

I did check all the various speaker settings and configurations with no joy

Cheers,

P

Hi Paudge,

I just ran into the same issue on my computer - have you figured out what "fixes" the sound, so that I can play music through WMP? I've uninstalled PowerDVD, and reinstalled WMP, and it's still not working :/
