no.to create a dvd backup onto cd format using cd burner will use a lot of discs, due to the sheer size of the game.a cd blank can hold around 800mb,a dvd can hold approx 6 times that amount .(4.7gb)or 4700mb.

You can burn a Dvd using a cdwriter, but you would have to rip alot of stuff out of the games meaning Movies,Sound etc....It is really not worth ripping a game though when you can get a Dvd burner and have the full game just like the original without anything missing from it and all the features working perfectly.I think your best bet is to just buy a dvd burner, which are not that expensive anymore. If you want to rip a dvd game you are also going to have to spend alot of time just preparing the disc which would be easier to just burn to Dvd,using patching programs and editing the images takes a long time.

Well the process of ripping Dvd games to cd-r is actually complicated when starting out.You have to downsize videos from the game and make small clone files of the original files .I have made a dvdrip before and files can be tooken out from the full dvd game to fit on a cd-r,but don't affect the Games from playing to fit them to a cd-r or like mentioned there are some ways of making games fit on a cd-r on multiple cd-r.The patching program I was referring to is called Dvd Scanlite which will convert the actual game into Cd-R from Dvd or vice versa Cd-R to Dvd.I really can't teach a person how to rip a game, but there are some really good tutorials on how to do it.I think after you have it down good enough you can rip pretty much all of your Dvd games.I tend to stay away from ripping stuff though, because like I said it deals with taking stuff out of the games.I think one of the best sites to look at though on ripping a Dvd game would probably be here http://www.alucard.cc which has tons of ripping tutorials and alot of knowledge on editing games you will have to register to view that site though alright.I agree though dvd burner is everybodies best bet and definately recommended.I think for dvdrips you can't just plug your Dvd game into your cd drive and have it burn the game, but you can recognize a dvd game to build a image,so by building a image and editing it to fit to a 700MB disc it will work.

The best place to go is http://www.alucard.cc they have pretty much all the ripkits there.Another place to look at is http://www.swapmagicfix.com ,and I had a site that teaches you how to split DVD-9 to two discs.I lost it though will have to look for it alright and post the site for you alright man.It really just explains how to find a certain point to split to two discs.
