okay i bought a external USB pioneer dvr-108 in an enclosure http://www.egoodz.com/product.asp?pf_id=509dvr108.. it reads a dvd fine and i can rip it just fine but then i try to burn it and it just wont burn. I used dvd decrypter to extract the double layer I-Robot DVD then used dvdshrink to shrink it to 4.3 gigs and created an ISO file. I then tried to burn it using nero but all it does is initialize and then not burn it, it just sits there. Please give me an idea of any settings i need to check, drivers, firmware, anything to get this thing to work. I installed newest aspi, newest firmware... the CD that came with the drive that says it has drivers on it doesnt work, it doesnt detect my USB connection or something, but how could that be if i was able to read a DVD and rip it? please some help, if i cant get any help on here i guess i am just going to get rid of this thing because so far all it does is make coasters.

I did not see anything wrong, but you may have aborted too soon. Your abort was in the log file.
One thing I see is your ASPI version is 4.60, which many people use. There is 4.71 from adaptec or maybe better for you is the version Nero has. Post anther log file, but hold of on the abort. Get some RW disc to save on making coasters.

Another way to test your setup is to use DVD-Decrypter for both a read and a burn. You would have to find a single layer DVD, and then just read and write it in ISO mode. I find that DVD-Decrypter is less fussy in the types of recordable media it will access....

I agree but many people like Nero. I use DVD Decrypter. I tried Nero, but it installed too much stuff I did not want and made it self default in places I didn't want. I did not have the time then to customize it, so decrypter was my choice.

But back to the problem. You could try DVD Decrypter to see if the burner or Nero is the problem.
What were you trying too copy when you made the log file.

the CD that came with the drive that says it has drivers on it doesnt work, it doesnt detect my USB connection
Get with Pioneer to get it installed correctly.
Y didn't you just go with an internal?

PS can you edit your last post and delete all 2:06:38 PM entries.

Hello,

I just bought a Pioneer DVR-108 16X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer internal and put this bad boy in my pc and i'm getting a similar problem. I can view data, watch dvd's (which skip every 15 min or so). I've installed the Nero software that came with the burner and sure enough when I try to burn anything ( Data, audio, DVD) it simply freezes my entire system. "all it does is initialize and then not burn it, it just sits there" (same thing as Helloguy) I can't even end task. I have to manually reboot my machine. I've unplugged my cd rom device thinking there might be a conflict of interest so that the Pioneer DVR-108 is the only reader installed and the same thing is happening. I'm running Xp, I've got 512 meg's of ram on an asus motherboard with a 1.4 gig athalon cpu. Also, it's as if the Pioneer DVR-108 burner just completely dies. I can't even push the button to open the tray. It's as if the device never worked at all, yet when I restart it works as normal again (reading dvd's and data)...

Help.

Dr. Fever.

I'm not really a doctor, i just play one on T.V.

Check device manager for conflicts. Try to burn a DVD with DVD Decrypter.
How is it hooked up master/slave or cable select.

Ok, check it out people, I fixed my problem. I can't really tell you why it works now but I'll tell you what I did. Basically the Nero software that came with drive was the culprit.. I suppose I should have tried un-installing that before whinning to everybody in here, but there ya go. Anyway, after removing Nero, I went here : http://www.cdburnerxp.se/ and installed this software instead. It's really simple to use and is completely free. I highly recommend it. By the way, i was able to get both of my drives to work now.

Thanx for your help, and I hope this helps you out Helloguy.
