I have stumbled onto many sites that claim their software will back up any gaming system disc, including ps2 and will not require a mod chip. Has anyone tried this? Had any success?

Thanks for saving me $40... I have heard that mod chips can effect the ps2's ability to play games that are not back up copies, like new games that are coming out now. Any truth to that?
