Hello guys. I have had my NEC2500a for a while now and can burn dvds just great. However... I cannot watch movies or view discs i have burned. When I try to watch a movie it just plays fine for about 10 seconds and then starts skipping/freezes. When I try to browse a data disc, my explorer always gets really slow and then recovers instantly when the disc is removed. I have a cd drive on the same IDE cable, but its not ever active when I'm using the DVD burner. I have upgraded the firmware to many different versions to try and solve this problem. Any ideas?

Sounds like bad media to me, what are you using?

If you are having problems watching your original discs, I suspect there is a fault with your drive.

What programs are you using? And what speed are you burning at?

I have tried burning at 4x and 8x. these discs burn fine and work on standalone player. i have tried Nero and alcohol to burn and niether work. I have tried Intervideo Windvd and Interactual to watch them.

If you have Interactual installed in your PC it can screw up your attempts to burn dvds. You should really uninstall that bogus piece of software. Then give it a go. It may just make the difference!

I had a LG drive that was acting the same way, turned out the drive was dying. Burned just fine but wouldn't playback or read data well. Had to replace it, fortunately I still had 3 months left on the 1 yr. warranty. LG sent me a new drive.
I also have a NEC 2500A, I like it, works well.
