dvd-r/rw not recognized

my dvd-rw drive reads but will not burn. when i right click on the drive and open the propities box the record tab is not there. microsoft has a registry fix for this by expanding the registry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives but it makes no mention of dvd. can i use this fix or substitute in the line code dvd burning for cd burning

Before you mess with the registry, just remove the drive in your device manager and reboot. Windows should reinstall the drive properly.

i deleted and re-installed the drive. no luck drive still isnt recognized
