Can anybody tell me about backing up my kids Ps 2 games. I tried to but everytime I put the copied disc in it says please enter a playstation format disc. My PS 2 is a version 7 I think. I have Nero 6 and DVD Shrink. Can anybody help me please?

If you want your kids to be able to do it, you'll probably want to go with the mod chip. Alternatively, you could get a hard drive for your PS2, but depending on the size of the HDD, that might cost more thatn you're willing to fork over for backing up games.

as wonder05 said the mod chip is the easiest way to go
all depends on whether you want to void your guarantee,if you have v7,i doubt you still have any left anyway.
there are basically 3 types of method for loading copied ps2 games.
#1.soldered modchip(a chip is installed inside ps2,enabling you to load backup's as if they were originals)
#2.HARDRIVE method.,games are loaded from your hardrive onto ps2
#3.SWAPMAGIC(with either fliptop lid,or slide card),basically this method can be tricky for kids,depends how old they are!!!,this method involves using a boot disc to load games.
my advice is ,if you want to go ahead with modding your ps2...go for the soldered modchip,if it voids your gaurantee???so what???,ps2 console are so cheap these days,in the UNLIKELY event the chip breaks your console,go and buy another one..
having said all that,suppose it all depends on your financial situation.

Thanks hursty for the info. I'm sort of stuck between the mod chip and the slide you spoke of.

go with the modchip. Using the swapmagic/slide tool method is a pain in the ass. you'll have to patch the games in order to get them to boot, then you have swap disks every time. This can get pretty hard on your PS2, and having kids do it surely won't help. A mod chip won't cost much more, and you'll be thankful you did it.

Thanks wonder 05. I came to that after asking the kids about doing that.The guy in radio shack told my son to get a mod chip like you said and put it in. But he didn't know anybody that did that here where I live. I wear glasses and can't see that well. Can you tell me where I might send my ps2 to get the chip put in or where I might look on the web to get it done.I just got in to all this with my kids and I don't really know.

Well I really can't help you find a modchip; I've never used one (I use the mem card exploit with a hard drive). You might have some luck searching the net for an online store, but be careful. Mod chips aren't exactly the most legitimate of businesses, so less than desirable sites come with the territory. Regardless, this post should serve as a bump and maybe others who know more about mod chips will see the thread.

I'd go with the HD if it were me. You can get 120 gig drives pretty cheap $80 where I live. The load time is awesome and most games work out of the box.

You don't have to patch your backups unless you plan on playing them online.

If you don't want to go with a modchip, definitely go with the fliptop. If your kids are able to load a normal game on their own, they can do this method.
You just need Swap Magic v3.3 discs w/ fliptop lid for v7 ps2. It's probably around $35 and simple to switch. All you do is load SwapMagic disc, swap with backup disc, and hit 'X'.
