Any tech boffins know the answer to my problem?

Ok, first of all if this has already been covered either here or in another forum, my apologies to all concerned. (Did try to search but no success)
Problem is this, got a NEC DVDRW ND-3520A (set as sec. master) and a Lite-On DVDRW LDW-815S (set as sec. slave, both units seem fine with the reading and writing of various makes of DVD,s in any format.
But neither unit recognises writable and rewritable cds of any format of whatever make, so consequently for example trying to get disc info in Nero (V6.6.0.3)I get the error message "No disc inserted or drive not ready, please try again"
So at present I basically cannot read or write to any type and format of CD.
Anybody had the same problem and know of a fix please share your knowledge as this is driving me nuts.

put secondary slave burner to primary slave than try a cd
