Just bought an ILO dvd recorder and am wondering which speed to use. I have a lot of tv shows on tape I want to transfer. Is there that much difference between 2, 4 and 6 hour recording?

If you are refering to burning dvds, the 2x, 4x, 6x, is not the same as 2hr ,4hr, 6hr. Most members seem to think burning a dvd over the 4x speed will cause burn errors and in most cases this is true. The slower the burn the less chance of errors. Also the max speed you can usually burn is the rated speed of the blank disc. If the disc says 4x you normally can't burn it at 6x. Hope this helps some.

6 hours recording compared to 2 hours would have a distinct quality loss.

The higher the time = more compression = lower quality.

Therefore for better quality it is better to use the time setting that is closer to the source media.
However if you want to put multiple titles on one disc, then the only way is to increase the time setting, but you will get a trade off in quality..........
