I'm not aware that there is a place in DVD Shrink where you can tell it what to burn at.
What burning program are you using?

Make sure your burner is not connected to a Promise PCI card. I have a SONY DRU-710A, and it would constandly burn at 4x (the max data rate the Promise card could go) instead of 16x. I took it off the Promise and rearranged my system a bit and made sure the DVD burner IDE was doing to my mobo, and it solved the problem.

When you click 8x in DVD Shrink, and it's done encoding and the burning starts, does it say "Burning process started at 8x"? or do you click 8x yet it changes it to 4x?

What are you using with DVD Shrink? Nero or Decrypter? you should bebale to change the speed in one of those programs, Whichever program you have enable to burn after DVD Shrink is done.

The burner should be configured as MASTER on the IDE cable with the dvd rom as SLAVE. It sometimes Helps to put them on different IDE cables if possible. Such as Hard Drive as Master---dvd rom as Slave on one IDE, then dvd burner as Master and secondary HD as slave on the other IDE cable.

then go into Nero and do a drive speed test and then set the burning speed at 8x in Nero and it should then let you burn at 8x in DVD Shrink.
