hi if anyone could help me I would appreciate it. I would like to know what brands or dvd-r and dvd-rw's best copmy with an ilo recorder. Does it even matter? I'm new to this stuff.

Try putting your question in the dvd media forum.
To answer your question, I would say no. You will find that if you buy cheap media you will get cheap results. Ritek & verbatim have a good rep.
