Problems copying DVD-R's using Emerson DVR and Nero

I have an Emerson DVR and attempted to copy a DVD-R disc (which worked fine in the DVR and other DVD players) using Nero. It appeared to copy successfully, however when I placed the copied disc (which was a DVD-RW) it just kept continually loading and nothing would come up on the screen.

I'm guessing this is probably something simple, but I'm a noob, sorry.
