When I started doing backups about a year and a half ago, I started storing them in a Case Logic binder. I've noticed recently that when I look at the recorded side, I can see a faint smokey looking waffle pattern on the disk surface. No, it is not dust and won't clean off. So far it doesn't seem to affect playback, but I'm afraid if it gets worse that it will. I'm almost ready to ditch the 4 binders I have and build a wood tray to hold slim cases. I just hate the fact that I paid $20.- apiece for the binders and would have to make quite an investment into slim cases and building a tray system. Has anybody had disks quit working because of something like this?

I havent had that problem with my case I had my disc are still working fine. Just a question are you a smoker or a smoker in the house? This is the first iv heard of this problem. Anyway I have over 300 backups and didnt wanna spend the money on more casses so I read in another post where somone bought ziplock contaniers/paper CD sleeves/File folder labels/CD alphbetic deviders and file them that way. I went that route and have all my disc off spindles and out of the case with this setup and it was less then 30 bucks

Hi larrylje ... glad to know the other post was helpful (and cheap to set up!). :-) If you come up with any enhancements to the "system," I'd love to hear them. Always looking to improve ...

Bruceb3, it's at http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/146570 if you want to check it out.
