We are seeing a run of NEW types of encryption since last month. Possibly Sky Captain has another one. We may have to wait and see if others have the same problem as you.
The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised.

I just backed it up with no problems with Shrink and a Verbatim disk. Didn't seem to be any special protection.

Brutalsun, I copied Taking Lives with DVD X Copy no problem. It seems that different programs are having different problems with different movies. I guess that just goes to show you that all programs and movies are different.

I just downloaded the trial AnyDVD and CloneDVD2. I have been using DVD Xcopy Xpress but plan to get something else, so I am comparing backups. I was able to backup Sky Captain with no problem using AnyDVD & CloneDVD and also with DVD XCopy by itself.

How about this: I put the sky captain dvd in my optorite and it doesnt even recognize it. I cant browse the disk or anything. Its the first DVD of 200+ movies that i have placed into that player to ever NOT recognize. There are no firmware updates for it. No drivers to download

Sometimes you will get a disk that needs to be cleaned. I think this is the case because I ran a copy with shrink and had no problems.

Ok, I saved it to my harddrive with DVD Decrypter, but when I try to open those files with DVD Shrink it says that the files cannot be found. Thanks

Not quite sure if this is what you were referring to but:
Where are the files? Do you know the folder they are in? You have to guide DVD Shrink to where they are for the program to use them.

if you are copying only the movie files you need to have decrypter create an .iso for shrink to recognize. shrink doesn't like to work with a folder of movie files only unless you go into reauthor mode, even then its just easier to create an .iso initially.

Quote: For DVD9's, I rip in file mode. For DVD5's, I rip in ISO mode.
I started that way because :worthy: LightningUK (sole DVDD programmer) recommended it be done that way.
DVD Shrink works just fine in either mode.

um actually if you have DVD Decrypter rip ONLY the movie files, no shrink does not recognize the movie files only all of the time. this is because it is looking for the VideoTS file, and if you only rip the movie files with Decrypter you won't have a VideoTS file, it will be with a 2 or 3 at the end usually - this is what throws Shrink for a loop. so yes, if you create an .iso from Decrypter Shrink will see it and run from there. this is just what i have experienced, not saying that ScubaBud is wrong just may have had a different experience than me.

What ScubaBud is saying is that the Creator of the program we all love and use, LightningUK, programmer extraordinaire of DVD Decryptor suggests that you, again, Rip in file mode if it's a DVD9.
As far as addicts and seniors go, it's a 50/50 mix. Just use whatever you prefer and had success with. But either will work without flaws.
There are two threads on this exact subject.

Not debating what works.....its user preference on whether to extract movie files only in decrypter, or extract all 9gb worth of files and then parse down to the movie only in Shrink or whatever encoder you use.....
i was only addressing the potential reason that Yabs was having problems. i always got that message from Shrink IF if extracted movie files only from Decrypter and then asked Shrink to open them up.
i agree that its 50/50 on the board as to who uses what method.
